Coinbase allows users to purchase bitcoins by directly transferring money from a bank account. First thing you need to do is transfer some money into your Bitstamp account. In order to do this you must create an account with Bitstamp, go to deposit section and select preferred method of transferring funds. Make a bank deposit via SEPA, wire transfer or some other method. You will be given a unique 11 digit reference code and their account information where your funds must go. Once they receive your bank deposit they will credit your account and then you can start purchasing bitcoins right away. The whole procedure usually takes 3 – 5 business days.

Celery

If you own an US based bank account (like Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo etc.) Celery is a good option. This is another bitcoin broker that serves the U.S. and Canada. The website has great usability and all the verification and buying process is done very nice. You can buy bitcoin with a connected bank account via ACH transfer. It takes 5 business days for banks to clear transactions. You can add your US based bank account even if you are not a US resident. They charge a fee of 2.5% if the order amount is greater than or equal to $500 and 5% if the order is less than $500. In addition, there is a $2 minimum fee for small orders.

  1. I’ve used CoinCorner many times before. They used to be bank transfer only which was fine, but now they accept credit and debit cards which is so much better! It’s personal opinion, of course, but I find bank transfers take too long!

  2. I tried Coinbase but I got stuck on the identification step – they use the webcam on your machine and mine will not focus on the shiny surface of passport or drivers license. They also reflect the light from the laptop screen which the webcam cannot handle. It sounds like a good replacement for scanning, but I guess not.

    Guess I will try something else.
